Frequently Asked Questions
What is a tax domicile and how can I obtain it?
A tax domicile determines a taxpayer’s affiliation with a country for tax purposes. It serves as proof that you are a tax resident of the Czech Republic and that you can claim tax reliefs there. This helps prevent double taxation on your credited interest income.
PROCEDURE TO OBTAIN AND FILL OUT A TAX DOMICILE:
You can find the application for a tax domicile certificate HERE, a sample on how to fill out the form HERE, and additional information HERE.
The tax domicile certificate based on the completed application must be obtained from the Financial Office of the Czech Republic at the locally competent tax administrator. You can easily find out which regional office you belong to by entering your postal code or the name of your residence or registered office on the Financial Administration’s website.
What needs to be submitted to obtain the certificate:
a) Proof of identity (for in-person applications)
b) Completed application form (a filled-in template is provided in the attachment)
c) Revenue stamp in the value of CZK 100 – we recommend purchasing it in advance, as not all tax offices allow you to buy it on site
4. The tax domicile certificate is issued for the current year as of the requested date (if the Savings without Limits account was opened in 2024). Alternatively, it can be issued for previous years by specifying the exact taxable period, for example from 1 January 2023 to 31 December 2023 (if the client is applying for a refund of withholding tax deducted from interest credited to the account up to 31 December 2023).
5. You can collect the issued certificate in person, or have it sent to you by post or electronically to your data mailbox (the data mailbox ID must be provided). Your preferred delivery method can be indicated in the application for the tax domicile certificate.
6. The processing period by the Financial Administration is one month from the date of submission of the application.
INTEREST PAYMENT CONFIRMATION FOR 2024
The interest payment confirmation for 2024 can be found in the “Statements” section, dated 31 December 2024.
HOW TO SUBMIT THE CERTIFICATE TO THE BANK:
The tax domicile certificate approved by the Financial Office is best sent to us via your Internet Banking.
1. At the beginning of the savings account opening process – on the “Applicant Information” screen, where you confirm the accuracy of your details and continue. EXAMPLE HERE
2. Alternatively – via “Send Message” in the Message Box section EXAMPLE HERE
In the Message Box, select the “Message Type” and then the “Message Area”. In the “Message Text” field, write that you are sending a Tax Domicile Certificate. Then upload the document in a permitted format (png, jpg, jpeg, or pdf) with a maximum size of 3 MB and send it to the bank. EXAMPLE HERE
Based on the tax domicile, the bank will change the tax withholding code on your account to 0% and refund the tax charged on interest for the relevant accounting period.
The client is then obliged to file a tax return in the Czech Republic, after which the interest will be taxed according to Czech legislation.
What does daily interest mean?
Interest is credited to your account daily. This means that if your balance is positive, a higher amount earns interest each day. Interest is credited on banking days, including retrospectively for non-banking days (i.e., weekends and public holidays in Slovakia).
Who is your savings account intended for?
Savings without Limits is for everyone — any individual can open an account.
What do I need to open the Savings without Limits account?
